The showroom is reconceptualized as a blank canvas to uncover various living contexts with one’s presence and interaction with the space.

In 2016, Ikea launched a campaign, “Where Life Happens”, highlighting how Ikea creates products for your everyday life.
Life at home is not only about the objects, but also the interactions we have with them and the daily happenings around them.

We saw an opportunity to bring ‘where life happens’ in-store,
allowing customers to live in an IKEA showroom by building a
connection between them and the space.
User Experience

As the user approaches a unique persona is screened,
allowing one to understand the home context before entering.
On first sight, the room contains minimal furniture. Stepping in triggers a layering of projected textures on the surfaces.
As you colour the room with your presence, Ikea’s items are displayed in colour, leaving shadows of generic items for people to imagine belongings closer to heart.
Intuitive actions like resting on the bed brings the room to life through the sights and sounds of daily home occurrences, welcoming the user into a life in the showroom.
As one continue to explore the room, the series of interactions build up the connection between the user, the physical space and the products.

Versatility of home settings empowers the showroom as a space of
discovery, relatability and contribution.
